Mierda!!  2 a.m. in Spain after the San Sebastian festival which, I am told, celebrates the victory over the French!  The details are kind of funny but I will leave that up to you if you want to dig into the history.  We woke up at 11:30 this morning after our first day in which we went to midnight without sleep for 38 some hours.  Ryan was out on his feet and slept to 1:30.  I went out and had a great cafe and pastry while reading the headlines in the paper...the only part of the paper that I could understand.  When I got back, Ryan was up after 14 hours of sleep.  Staci and I went for a 45 minute run along the ocean and and harbor....it was beautiful.  When we got back, Megan made us lunch croquettes and various other cheeses and fruit.  After lunch, we walked around the old part of San Sebastian and took in the parade.  We also saw Megan's room that she lives in w/ her host family.  The festival officially kicked off at 12:00 a.m. (for the record it is now 2:18 in the morning).  We took in the parade and then went to a great restaurant on the ocean that Megan had made reservation for two weeks in advance.  It was a blast.  We had a 7 course meal (pictures to follow) and wonderful vino.  The opening ceremony was on the local news and broadcast on the big screen.  The entire restaurant was given a set of drums and followed along with the drumming....bang. bang. bang.   This went on until 1 a.m.  Mucho Vino!  It is weird to sit down w/ your kids for dinner for four hours and have a blast talking and laughing.  After dinner, we walked Megan to meet her friends and they were heading out for the late night festivities (remember that this festival lasts for 24 hours).  I am sitting here typing and I can still hear the drums and music...bang....bang....bang.  As Megan would say...Haha!  Off to bed!  Bang..BAng..BANg...BANG!  What a blast!  Buenos Noches!   I'll add more pictures tomorrow.  Taking way too long this early in the morning!
